Typically released in early June each year, the Gartner Top 25 marks this year its 21st edition since the inaugural report in 2004 produced then by AMR Research, which Gartner acquired more than a decade ago.
Thinking about competing for a spot in the top 25 for this year? The process has already started, and Gartner is just out with an update for 2025 on the qualification criteria and the scoring methodology.
In order to be considered for the Top 25, a company needs to meet the following criteria:
Revenue: Companies must report at least $15 billion in revenue, converted to U.S. dollars. That’s up from $10 billion a few years ago.
Financial Data: Gartner uses public, audited financials from S&P Capital IQ, excluding most private companies and those without four years of data.
Industry: The focus is on manufacturing, retail and distribution, excluding extractive (mining/oil) industries, those tied to volatile commodities and service-based industries (unless asset-heavy with $1 billion in inventory).
Community Sentiment: Companies must meet peer and expert vote thresholds over five years. Experts review those excluded to determine if they should be reconsidered.
ESG Threshold: Companies need an "S&P ESG Score" above a set threshold by October's end.
In 2024, Gartner changed the scoring a bit to increase the weighting of a company’s ESG score in the total, now 20% of the total.
But in 2025, little is changing, with the weightings remaining the same as last year, as shown below:

Gartner is changing the ESG reference from the Social Performance area from the Bloomberg Gender Equality Index with a broader S&P ESG Social Score.
(See More Below)
The S&P ESG Social Score, out of 100, evaluates Community Relations, Societal Healthcare, Customer Relations, Financial Inclusion, Human Capital, Human Rights, Labor Practices, Health & Safety and Privacy Protection. Points are allocated based on an average score threshold, Gartner says.
So there you have the Supply Chain Top 25 approach for 2025. There’s still time to set up a briefing with Gartner analysts to tout your supply chain excellence.
