Times are not great for many US freight carriers, with references to a "freight recesssion" coming from many sources.
However, the impact on rates at least have significantly diverged beween LTL and full truckload carriers.
As seen in the graphic below, LTL rates started increasing faster than than truckload in 2018, and that delta really expanded starting in late 2021:

That would seem to place an extra premium on converting LTL shipments into multi-stop truckload moves.
