Most global logistics experts are not expecting much of a peak shipping season this year, given still high and rising prices, retailers working off excess inventories, and more.
That would just continue a slow container shipping year. As can be seen in the graphic below, total US import container volumes in 2023 have been well below the same month every month in 2022.

Vincent Clerc, chief executive of A.P. Moller-Maersk, said on a recent earnings conference call that retail and lifestyle shipments are down double-digits compared with prior years.
Long queues of ships awaiting a berth are long gone.
