How are West Coast ports doing in terms of share of total US container volumes?
In a couple of wordd: not good.
As seen in the chart below, all West Coast ports have seen their share slip from about 57% at the start of 2017 to just over 44% in February.

What's going on? Many factors, but fears of strikes and lockdowns - more common on the West Coast than East Coast it seems -is certainly one concern for shippers, and causes many to diversify to the East and Gulf coasts, in a trend that seems likely continue.
