Wiith the release of the dire UN Climate Report this week (see UN Climate Report Predicts Imminent Disaster), we had a question: Is interest among consumers for Sustainable products growing.
There are a variety of surveys and data points on that question, most showing growing interest, though perhaps without evidence the corresponding level of purchase behavior changes are following suit.
We tried another approach to get an answer, using Google Trends to see search activity over the past 5 years on the term "sutainable products." The results is charted below:
Searches for "Sustainable Products" Last 5 Years

As a not, we could not decipher the unit of measure on the vertical access, and it may actually be an index not actual search tallies.
Regardless, while strangely highly variable, the overall trend seems to be up, at times double or even triple the starting mid-2016 levels, sometimes also falling lower than the starting point - and that's about we are right now - meaning no real growth in search activity over 5 years.
Read into that what you will.
