Supply Chain Graphic of the Week: The Growth of Amazon Air

New Graphic Show How Extensive its Flight Network Is

May 11,  2021

A quartet of academics from DePaul University of Chicago's Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development recently released an excellent report analyzing the growth and strategies of Amazon Air.

That report included the graphic below, which maps Amazon Airs current global cargo flight nerwork:

As can be seen that network is now extensive - and growing rapidly, the report says.

Most of the flights currently - soon to be 160 per day - are point-to-point, but the trend is to leverage a few hubs, notably ones in Cincinnnati and Wllmington, Ohio.

Why those two? Because from either airport, cargo can be hauled by truck in fewer than 10 hours to areas in the East Coast, Mid-Atlantic , South and Midwest.

The report says all this positions Amazon to offer logistics services to others outside its own operations soon.
