What industry sectors area furthest ahead in having women in supply chain?
Earlier this week, we reported on the fifth annual study on the topic of women in supply chain from the analysts at Gartner, based on surveys from 177 supply chain managers at companies of at least $100 in revenue.
The headline from the report issued last week: women comprised 17% of chief supply chain officer positions in 2020, versus 11% in 2019.
Women also held 39% of all supply chain manager jobs, the same as in 2019. (See Women Making Gains at Top of Supply Chain Org Chart, Gartner Study Finds.)
Not included in SCDigest’s initial icoverage of the Gartner report was the graphic below, which shows what percent of companies in four sectors have set specific targets for women in supply chain – and in senior roles – in their companies, or have not.

As can be seen, 29% of consumer goods related companies have formal targets and executive goals for women in supply chain ranks, and another 37% have gender diversity as a general goal.
Industrial firms, by contrast, reported only 12% had specific targets, though 55% at least had general goals.
Those numbers were similar to those in all other sectors and in supply chain solution providers.
