As we reported in this week's Supply Chain by the Numbers, Alibaba had a blow out
"Single's Day," the odd Chinese on-line shopping event started some years back as a protest movement against Valentine's Day.
Alibaba raked in $38 billion in so-called Gross Merchandise Value on the day, a rough measure of sales through Alibaba's platform.
The photo below shows Alibaba employees fired up watching the company's electronic ticker showing sales volumes (in yuan) soaring.

We say: Looks like fun, even if we do think Single's Day is a little odd.
