The researchers at Ball State University's Center for Business and Economic Research, with its partners at an organization called Conexus Indiana, have as usual released theirĀ 2019 Manufacturing and Logistics Report Card.
The report rates the 50 states for manufacturing prowess. It actually does this in a couple of different ways, including one approach that rates states based on three attributes:
• The share of total income earned by manufacturing employees in each state
• The wage premium paid to manufacturing workers relative to the other states' employees
• The share of manufacturing employment per capita
That leave the states graded A to F, as shown in the graphic below:

Five states get an A grade: South Carolina, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, and Iowa.
