As always, SCDigest provided extensive coverage of the 2019 State of Logistics report from CSCMP and the consultants and ATKearney. (See State of the Logistics Union 2019 and State of the Logistics Union 2019 2.)
There is quite a bit commentary and graphics in the report on various logitics trends beyond the calculation of US logistics costs by various categories that sum up to the total, some $1.64 trillion in logisistics costs, or 8.0% percent of GDP in 2018. That was up markedly from 7.5% in 2017.
That includes the chart below on Amazon's growing logistics footprint, nicely putting into one chart various elements most of us have read about individually.
As the report notes, "Amazon's most notable developments have been in fulfillment solutions and in-house package delivery to top metro areas. These advances have and will continue to negatively impact deliveries densities and thus profits at other last mile carriers."
It adds that initiatives in other areas are nascent an- for now - have not had much impact in other areas of logistics.
