It has largely been boon times for materials handling system providers in recent years, as a variety of factors – including ecommerce fulfillment requirements and costs, challenges with labor in distribution centers and more - have led to strong sales of all sorts of equipment and systems.
That was certainly true in terms of conveyor systems in 2018, as recently reported by the Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA), an industry trade group.
As can be seen in the graphic below, as just released by CEMA, 2018 conveyor shipments in North America were up 18.04% year-over-year. CEMA estimates that shipments totaled $16.7 billion for 2018, a record level and an increase of $2.685 billion from 2017 shipments of $14.03.

CEMA also estimates that new ordersr converors totaled $15.8 billion in 2018, an increase of $1.72 billion versus 2017, representing an increase of 11.1% .
Can the fat times for conveyod companies continue? Hard to say, but CEMA also reported that January shipments were up 22.8% versus 2017, in the latest monthly report available.
