Last week, SCDigest editor Dan Gilmore summarized the rankings of consumer packaged goods manufacturers and retailers in terms of supply chain prowess coming out of the annual PoweRankings study from Kantar Retail. (See Another View of the Best Supply Chains 2019.)
The full report uses the interesting methodology of having retailers and manufacturers rate each other across a number of dimensions, of which supply chain is just one. Scores are tabulated by the percent of each group that rates a retailer or manufacturers as being in the top three for each category.
One of the categories involved asking manufacturers who they believe will be the "power retailers" in the US 15 years out. The results are shown below as our Graphic of the Week:
Manufacturers Predict Power Retailers 15 Years from Now

With brick and mortar retail in general turmoil, the rankings to SCDigest are rather conservative, not all that different than a rating of current power retailer would be. Walmart is viiewed as keeping the top slot, with Amazon nipping at its heals. Those two, plus number three Kroger, far out distances the rest of the pack.
