"Digitization" in business overall and in the supply chain specifically is a high priority, even if to SCDigest it all seems still a bit nebulous in terms of what digitization really means.
Shedding some light on that recenly is Simon Ellis, VP of the supply chain program for IDC Manufacturing Insights and former Unilever supply chain manager, who has just written a research note on "The Digitally Enabled Supply Chain."
In that note, Ellis offers what he calls the 5C model for supply chain digitization, as shown in the graphic below:

The top three Cs are reasonably well summarized in the accompanying bullet points. "Collaborative" refers to connecting trading partners electronically - and using that to jointly improve supply chain performance. "Cyber aware" refers to the need for the supply chain to support IT where it can to protect the company's suppy chain data.
Want to learn more? Ellis recently sat down with SCDigest editor Dan Gilmore to discuss the 5C model, a short discussion which you can view here: Supply Chain News Makers Video Series: IDC's Simon Ellis on a Framework for Supply Chain Digitization.
