Supply Chain Stock Performance in 2025

A Look at more than 20 Supply Chain and Logistics Stocks

I am continuing our review of the year in supply chain 2025 after covering the top stories by month last week. This week we offer a look at the performance of our supply chain stock index. We’ll then cap it off next week with our popular look at 2025 in numbers and charts.

So let’s head to Wall Street.

Gilmore Says....

As an amateur investor like many/most of us, I thought it might be interesting for you to see how supply chain stocks are performing on Wall Street.

The overall market, as measured by the S&P 500 index, was up a big 16.6% during the year. year. After a big gain in 2024, the market was down from the start of the year into April, with a steady climb until the end of the year.

Meanwhile, our supply chain and logistics stock index, which is made up of more than 20 stocks across freight carriers, logistics service provider, and supply chain hardware and software vendors, lagged the S&P, with a gain of just 4.9% in the past year, using an unweighted average of the 22 stocks in the index.

Using an unweighted average means all results are factored the same way, regardless of a stock's market cap.

In early 2021, SCDigest re-launched this weekly supply chain and logistics stock market index.

We ran this feature weekly a number of years ago but discontinued it for reasons I can't really recall. But I think it was smart to bring it back a few year’s – it's interesting and drives a lot of web site visits.

As an amateur investor like many/most of us, I thought it might be interesting for you to see how supply chain stocks are performing on Wall Street.

Below you will find the stock performance for the past year for the index as a whole and each stock we follow:

As can be seen, it was a mixed year for our supply chain stocks, with some big winners, notably CH Robinson, up 57%.

Other big winners were freight forwarder Expeditors Int’l (up 36%), rail carrier Norfolk Southern, on a takeover bid from Union Pacific (up 22%), 3PL Ryder (22%), and warehouse developer Prologis (up 20%).

The largest loser for the past year was data collection firm Zebra Technologies, which was down 37%. Other big losers include software provider Manhattan Associates (down 36%), software firm Descartes Systems (down 22),  and UPS (down 20%).

Software firms Logility and e2Open both were acquired by privately held companies last year and thus left our index, Logility by ERP software firm Aptean and e2Open by Australia’s WiseTech Global.

For several years I have suggested investors consider buying RFID firm Impinj on the (frequent and steep) dips, as you would have been generally well rewarded for doing so.

As seen in the chart below of Impinj’s stock performance in 2025, it looks like it was in a dip at the start of the year until April, but then rallying as usual until mid-November, before dipping again, then another recent rally:

Think I will leave it at that, and let you peruse the table on what interests you.
