Supply Chain Graphic of the Week: The US Freight Recession Continues On

ATA Data Says Freight Volumes have been Weak Since Early 2023

May 1, 2025

The American Trucking Associations (ATA) last week released its Freight Tonnage Index for March, and to no surprise it was down, dropping 1.5% month-over-month.

The March decline left the index at 113.4, meaning freight volumes are up just 13.4% in 10 years since the baseline year of 2015.
