The American Trucking Associations (ATA) last week released its Freight Tonnage Index for March, and to no surprise it was down, dropping 1.5% month-over-month.
But as the graphic below shows, it’s been tough times for truckers since early in 2023.

The March decline left the index at 113.4, meaning freight volumes are up just 13.4% in 10 years since the baseline year of 2015.
