AI is all the rage now of course across the supply chain and indeed the broader organization, though who is really doing what and what the results have been remains to us somewhat elusive.
In the recently released annual 3PL Study from Dr. John Langley of Penn State as usual and three sponsors, that led to an interesting question: do 3PLs users care about the AI capabilities of their 3PLs?
To a degree the answer to the question it appears to us is Yes, as seen in the graphic below from the report, based on the report’s survey data.

As can be seen, 74% of survey respondents said they were very likely, likely or somewhat likely to switch 3PLs based on a lack of sufficient AI prowess. Just 26% said AI was unlikely to be a factor.
We’ll just add there is a lot nuance to this topic based on the service being provided, as some clearly lend themselves to use of AI far more than others.
