Transport Topics, the magazine of the American Trucking Associations, is out with its 2020 list of the world's 50 largest freight transportation companies, based on asset-based freight revenue in 2019.

The ranking takes into account all freight modes for each carrier, including truck, rail, ocean and air freight. The list is compiled by Transport Topics in collaboration with SJ Consulting Group.
Likely the virus pandemic will shake the list up a bit in 2021, based on 2020 revenue. It will be interesting to see which transport companies navigated disrupted freight markets most successfully.
As seen in the chart below of the top 10 ranked carriers, US-based parcel giants FedEx and UPS sit atop the rankings, with repeat number 1 FedEx reporting revenues of $64.6 billion, less than $1 billion more than UPS' $63.9 billion.

Those carriers were: LTL carrier XPO Logistics (#24); JB Hunt Transport Services (#25); LTL carrier YRC Worldwide (#29), truckload carrier Knight-Swift Transportation (#32), LTL carrier Old Dominion Freight (#33); truckload carrier Schneider (#36); Canada-based TFI International (#37); and LTL carrier Estes Express (#45).
Transport Topics notes that ocean and rail carriers, each with 14 ranked firms, accounted for more than half of the companies in this year's Top 50 list. Ten of the companies listed are primarily parcel carriers, eight are trucking companies, and four are airfreight carriers.
