Every other year since 2008, the analysts at Gartner release their ranking of the top university supply chain programs, both graduate and undergraduate, with its list of top undergraduate programs for 2020 unveiled in late June.

The somewhat surprising news: the undergraduate program in supply chain from the University of Arkansas topped the list, supplanting long term number 1 Penn State for the leadership spot. (See Gartner Names Top University Undergraduate Supply Chain Programs for 2020.)

Supply Chain Digest Says...

Average starting pay for MBAs with a supply chain concentration was $91,949, while those with master's degrees in supply chain management averaged $85,879, both up $2000-$3000 from 2018.

Now, the list of the top 25 graduate programs has also been released - and here Penn State keeps its top spot, as it has every year since the report started in 2008.

The ranking for both types of programs by three main evaluation categories, largely based on a detailed questionnaire, this year submitted by 52 universities.

The three categories are:

• Program scope (40%)
Industry value (40%)
Program size (20%)

Program scope is evaluated in terms of how well a program offers a "diverse, balanced curriculum," with the reference point for that being what Gartner calls its Supply Chain Talent Attribute Model.

That model starts with "foundational business skills," then layers on functional supply chain skills, enabling skills in areas such as supply chain technology and project management, followed by cross functional skills (integrated supply chain).

Those programs that have courses that well match up with this Gartner framework score more highly than those that don't. Extra points were also given to programs that had international supply chain courses and opportunities.

To evaluate industry value, Gartner looked at numbers for average starting salaries for program graduates plus the number of internships placed. They also surveyed supply chain professionals on which programs they believe were tops in thindustry.

Added to those evaluations for the first time this year were scores diversity and inclusion, determined by looking at the gender and ethnicity breakouts of both the faculty and the student population of each program.

The third category for the rankings, program size, is straightforward, determined by the number of full- and part-time supply chain students as well as full-time faculty in each program.

Put the numbers for each of three categories, and voila, out comes a top 25.

We have initiated an undergraduate major in supply chain management (B.S degree) and a MS in Supply Chain Management in 2019. We would like to participate in the Gartner list of top programs in supply chain management.  If the questionnaire that you use remains the same each year, if you would be so kind to send a copy to me so that we can begin preparing the data you require to evaluate our program.  All students in our program get internships; we place over 95% of graduates in full-time supply chain positions; and starting salaries for undergraduates is over $60,000 (including bonuses).  Out students tend to stay with the companies that initially hire them and typically are promoted multiple times during their first three years on the job.  We operate the Monica Wooden Center for Supply Chain Management & Sustainability which conducts research into logistics, supply chain management, and sustainability/reverse logistics.  We utilize industry partners for developing our curriculum and our students get "hands-on" experience with TMS, WMS, SAP, data analytics, and other technologies in their coursework.  The Center and our educational programs are housed in the Muma College of Business at the University of South Florida.

We would love to have our program considered for inclusion in the Gartner list for this next year.  Thank you for your consideration.
