After a torrid 2018 from a carrier persective, things surely changed n 2019.
As shown in the graphic below from load board and information services provider DAT, spot market rates soared in most of 2018, with extremely tight capacity in the market, reaching nearly $2.00 per mile including fuel surcharge in mid-year.
But the supply-demand balance changed dramatically in early 2019, with spot rates faling to around $1.50 per mile, where they settled in the last few months of last year.

DAT predicts a decent 5% increase in spot rates in 2020, but mostly in the second half of the year. It forecasts just a 2% rise in truckload rates in the year, after those rates dropped 2% after the sharp jump in 2018.
Consider your transportation budgets appropiately.
