China's CO2 emissions now are higher than those of the US and Europe - combined.
As seen in the graphic belpw, from a recent story on the Bloomberg.com web site, China's emissions exceeded that of the US and Europe about 5 years ago, and have stayed there, though not by much.

This fact is probably surprising to some. Though its emissions have clearly slowed, China predicts its total emissions will peak in 2030.
Though it claims a program to reduce its reliance on coal, the reality is that while coal's share of China's energy consumption is falling slightly, its overall use of coal continues to increase.
Will China really start to reduce total emissions after 2030? We have our doubts.
