It's no secret freight rates are soaring.
But here is the evidence in a nice chart from Cass Infomation Systems, as part of its monthly Linehaul Index, which measures US contract truckload rates before fuel surcharges or other accessorials.
The chart shows the index starting taking off in mid-2020 and have slowed down since:
The index, with a baseline period of Jan. 1990 (index = 100), was about 130 in the middle of last year. In March, the index stood at 143.1, an all-time high.
It also means that since mid-2020, US truckload rates are up 10%.
The bad news for shippers: it doesn't look like rate growth is slowing down any time soon.
