Supply Chain Graphic of the Week: What Cities are Seeing the Most DC Construction?

 

The Dallas Metro Market is Way Out in Front

Industrial real estate firms such CBRE and Cushman & Wakefield continue to put out market analyses showing demand for US distribution center space remains  strong, driven by ecommerce fulfillment and other trends.

 

But what US metro areas are seeing the highest growth?

 

The recently released CSCMP State of Logistics Report included a chart answering that question, looking at the top markets for DC construction in term of total square footage, both builds for a contacted shipper and so-called "speculative" builds, in which developers build facilities they hope they can lease:

 

 


Based on data from Cushman & Wakefield, thet research shows the Dallas market way out front, with 29 million square feet recently under construction. Houston and the Inland Empire area of Los Angeles tied for number 2, at 21 million square feet.
