Supply Chain Graphic of the Week: Top US Metro Areas for DC Workers

LA Suburbs Top the List, with Most of the Usual Suspects Rounding Out the Top 10

Jan. 3, 2020

What US metro areas (MSAs) have the greatest number of distributIon center workers?

As part of an interesting new research report on the likely impact of robotics on DC job numbers and how the jobs themselves will change, Beth Gutelius and Nik Theodore of the University of Illinois at Chicago included the chart below, which answers the question posed above:

The suburbs of Los Angeles easly top the list, with more than 68,000 warehouse jobs, followed by number 2, the greater Chicago area, at 51,000.

The list naturally includes many areas known for being home to lots of DCs, from Atlanta to Phoenix, but is interesting to see nonetheless.

SCDigest's summary of the report itself can be found here: Intersesting New Research on Impact of Robots on Warehouse Workers
