We’re happy to announce today that SCDigest has agreed to partner with ISCEA (International Supply Chain Education Alliance) in the Ptak Prize award for Supply Chain Excellence.
The Ptak Prize is named for Carol Ptak, former president and CEO of APICS, and a well-known supply chain authority. ISCEA, the rapidly expanding leader in Supply Chain training and certification, created the Ptak Prize last year to recognize leaders in SCM excellence. Award winners are honored at the annual World Supply Chain Forum in May.
As part of the agreement, SCDigest will partner with ISCEA on the award starting with the prize for 2007. SCDigest Editor Dan Gilmore and Contributing Editor Gene Tyndall have become members of the selection committee that will review award submissions and choose the winners. Selection committee members include a wide range of supply chain academics and consultants. Additional, high-profile selection committee members are expected to be announced soon.
For 2006, the Ptak Winner is LeTourneau Steel Group, from Longview, TX. The company’s supply chain efforts led to dramatic results in only 18 months, during which LeTourneau was able to improve on-time delivery from 50% to 94%, cut inventory by 80%, reduce cycle time by 67%, and increase shipped tons by 50%.
Plans for 2007 are to increase the number of award categories. Details on these plans should be announced soon.

Selection criteria, submissions forms, and other information will be avalable soon from SCDigest. In generlal, prize award criteria will include the scope of the company’s supply chain vision, adoption of new SCM business practices and processes, and innovative use of supply chain technology. Winners will receive significant recognition for their achievements, including a Video case study from Supply Chain Productions LLC.
