The new column, "Keep it Moving," will appear regularly on SCDigest.com and in our flagship email newsletter. Wulfraat will also continue to provide comments and insight in other articles published by SCDigest, as he has been doing for several years.

Wulfraat has had a long career in the logistics industry before founding MWPVL in 2006.

"I've known Marc for a long time, and he is clearly one of the most knowledgeable and perceptive thinkers we have in the industry," said SCDigest editor Dan Gilmore. "That's the kind of experts we're looking for on our pages - we are very excited to have him on board."

Wulfraat joins Cliff Holste, long time author the "Sorting it Out column," as part our SCDigest's powerful distribution and materials handling team.
Wulfraat says his column will focus on three main topic areas:

(1) Emerging technologies and solutions for distribution operations

(2) Automation equipment and vendor solutions

(3) Supply chain strategies and trends

As an example of the type of content Wulfraat can produce, you can read his comments or watch the video of his recent interview with Gilmore relative to important material handling developments in Europe: Different Perspectives on ROI Drive More Aggressive Adoption of Distribution Automation in Europe than US, Expert Says

Wulfraat says that "I have long respected SCDigest's content and materials. I am excited at the opportunity to share what I am seeing in the market with SCDigest readers on a regular basis."

Wulfraat's first Keep it Moving column has already been posted. It notes how changing demographic trends - specifically aging populations in many developed economies - are likely to have a big impact on labor availability in those countries.

He introduces the concept of the "Age Dependency Ratio," which is a way to measure the number of dependents (younger and older people) in a country versus the number of people between 16 – 64 years of age. In most developed countries, the trend is not good.

Wulfraat notes that "If labor resources become increasingly scarce, then inflationary pressures are not far behind. A shrinking labor pool combined with projected higher wages and benefits costs implies that we will very likely be witnessing a significant increase in the demand for automated material handling systems in countries where there is an increasing Age Dependency Ratio."
