There is currently much interest and even some hype relative to the "Internet of Things," a concept involving what will soon be billions of physical items - pallets of inventory, production equipment, and even the refrigerators in our homes - that will be connected to the internet and communicating information about their status and environment.

There are hundreds of applications for the Internet of Things across industry sectors, but which applications and industries will do the most spending and thus lead the adoption of IoT-based systems?

The researchers at IDC recently released an excellent analysis of where the greatest interest IoT will come across sectors.
