Supply Chain Digest is pleased to announce that for the fourth consecutive year, SCDigest is partnering with research and analysis giant Gartner on a major survey and report on supply chain priorities, practices and technologies.
The annual study has included responses from several hundred SCDigest readers each year, and led to a variety of interesting insights. For example, the 2009 results published early in 2010 showed that for the first time "increasing productivity" was rated as the top supply chain priority by survey respondents, supplanting "reducing supply chain costs" from the top spot it had held the previous two years.
That was an important shift, says Gartner Vice President Dwight Klappich, because it showed companies were focused in 2010 on participating in the expectedeconomic recovery and top line growth without adding back the overhead costs they had before- a trend that has proven accurate in this "jobless" recovery.

Survey respondents receive a complimentary copy of Gartner's Supply Chain Management Market and Vendor Guide report - a $300 value. That report summarizes a variety of key supply chain market trends and details key selection criteria and vendor choices for supply chain execution software.
In addition, survey participants will also be invited to a respondents-only Videocast summarizing the survey results and analysis results in early 2010.

 In a recent video interview about the 2010 survey, Klappich told SCDigest editor Dan Gilmore: "I think the most interesting thing about the study is looking at the data through different stratifications."
For example, Klappich says the study will look at results not only in aggregate, but also by how companies define their "supply chain personalities" - for example, are they aggressive, medium, or conservative in terms of how they approach supply chain innovation and technology adoption, and what is the overall role of supply chain in a given company's performance and differentiation.
"We clearly see that the so-called "supply chain leaders" are very different than the rest of companies, and we think it will be interesting for companies to actually see how they fit in that landscape and some areas where they might be able to improve their businesses," Klappich added.
