Supply Chain News Makers Video Series:

New Organization Seeks to Improve Image of Trucking and Truck Drivers

April 4, 2016

Trucking and truck drivers are essential to the US economy and really our way of life. Yet, in recent years the reputation of the trucking industry and even drivers themselves has taken a bit of a hit, certainly a factor in the on-going challenge of bringing new drivers into the profession.

And that's just not right, Kevin Burch, president of trucking firm Jet Express in Dayton, OH, and a friend also in the trucking industry discussed a few years ago while sitting in an airport. And that conversation became the catalyst for a new organization and movement designed to raise the awareness and image of trucking and drivers across the country.

The movement - called "Trucking Moves American Forward" - is already doing great work in pursuit of that goal, from creation of videos, posters, and truck wraps to advertising and editorial work in major media and much more. All that in support of the 7 million Americans that work one way or another in the trucking sector, including some 3.4 million drivers.

It is a cool and interesting effort. Watch Burch and SCDigest editor Dan Gilmore discuss the "Trucking Moves America Forward" program in this fast paced video.
