Supply Chain Thought Leadership Video Series:
Understanding China's Alibaba

Feb. 2, 2015

Did you know China's Alibaba is already the world's largest ecommerce company, with a much larger amount of consumer dollars now moving through its platform than is handled by Amazon.com?

Or that it dominates ecommerce sales in China, the world's largest online market? That is had the largest IPO in history last fall? Or that founder and CEO Jack Ma also has his sights set on the US and European markets as well?

That means companies and their supply chain managers should get up to speed fast on just what this successful and aggressive company is doing to potentially capture opportunities - or avoid major market risks.

Almost no one in the US knows more about Alibaba and its strategies than Dr. Jim Tompkins, CEO of Tompkins International, who has spent several years amassing quite of bit of facts and insight relative to Alibaba and what its success means for Western companies. He stars in a video that Tompkins International recently produced that provides a tutorial on all you need to know about this fast-giant (view The Alibaba Effect video).

That video has gone viral, with more than 116,000 viewers.

In a recent interview for the weekly supply chain video news broadcast from our Supply Chain Television Channel and CSCMP, Tompkins shared some of that insight with with SCDigest editor Dan Gilmore, which we broadcast below.

Not to be missed by retailers, consumer goods companies, and supply chain managers generally.
