The session at each year's annual Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) conference in which each year's report and results are unveiled is always one of the most well-attended sessions of the event.

The report is developed from a combination of hundreds of survey responses from both shippers and 3PLs, one on one interviews, and roundtable discussions. Dr. Langley is joined by experts from Cap Gemini, 3PL provider Panalpina, and executive recruiting firm Heidrick & Struggles in analyzing the data, conducting the interviews, and developing the report. This year, eyefortransport and SCDigest are providing marketing/media support.

The link to the survey, which we encourage you to take, is available here: Third Party Logistics Study Survey 2011. It will take just 15 minutes to complete.

The final report will be available at CSCMP 2011 during early October in Philadelphia.

Survey respondents are eligible for a number of prizes:

  • 10 randomly selected participants among 3PL users will win free registration to one of eyefortransport’s 3PL Summits & Chief Supply Chain Officer Forums (a USD 2,500 value), the world’s largest events for 3PL providers, 3PL users, and senior supply chain executives. Winners can choose to attend the Atlanta event (June 21-23) or the Antwerp event (November 22-23). We will select winners on April 30, so please do not delay in completing your survey!
  • An additional 10 randomly selected participants will receive a copy of the soon-to-be-published, new edition of Supply Chain Management: A Logistics Perspective, a bestselling textbook co-authored by Dr. Langley, co-founder of the annual 3PL study.

In addition, all participants are eligible to receive an advance copy of the 2011 report prior to its general release in October.

According to Dr. Langley, "Everyone’s opinion counts - this year’s study will incorporate the views of users, non-users, and providers of third-party logistics services."

Said even in another way, even companies that use little or no 3PL services are encouraged to respond to the survey.

As usual, the report will focus on some specific areas in addition to the general findings. This year, one of those focus areas will be on High Tech industry. This year's survey contains a short set of questions with direct applicability to supply chain issues in that sector.

Said SCDigest Editor Dan Gilmore: "The annual third party logistics report is always one of the most anticipated pieces of research in the supply chain and logistics discipline. It will be especially interesting to see how companies may have changed their thinking as we emerge from the recession into a new normal.
