Cass Information Systems is fresh out with its monthly report on US freight actvity for November, and as always begins its report with a nice chart that summarizes key metrics for the month.

As shown below, for example, while there was only by comparison a 4.5% year-over-year increase in shipments in November (across modes, but heavily weighted towards truck shipments), freight expenditures were up much more (43.9%), implying a major hikes in rates.

But is the tide turning? The Cass Linehaul Index, which tracks per mile truckload rates, was down 0.9% versus October.

Howeverm the shipments index shows seasonally adjusted freight volumes rose a strong 2.6%  versus October, so demand appears to remain strong.
