While companies need to match vendors with their own needs and recognize many vendors support specific niches in the market very well, this report is an excellent place to start.”

Each year, Scott Wilson and Doug Brown release their Black Book on Procurement Outsourcing report. The two are the authors of the popular book The Black Book of Outsourcing, and founders of consulting firm Brown & Wilson Advisors.
Last week, we reviewed overall procurement outsourcing trends cited in the report. (See
Procurement and Sourcing News: Procurement Outsourcing Continues to Grow). This week, we summarize the report's rankings of top Procurement Outsourcing providers. By special arrangement, The Black Book on Procurement Outsourcing has been made available in pdf form to SCDigest readers. (See Top Ten Comprehensive Procurement Outsourcing Vendors.)
The rankings are based on a combination of survey data from users of Procurement Outsourcing services, as well as Wilson and Brown’s own research on the market. The 18 criteria include everything from “How likely a user would be to recommend a Procurement Outsourcing Vendor to Other Buyers” to the breadth of the vendor’s offering, to its use of technology. There is also a separate, short evaluation of how the vendor supports green supply chain strategies.
The Black Book methodology weighs each category evenly in developing a composite score; individual areas may be more or less important to any one company considering potential vendors.
“The Black Book is known as the only independent unbiased ranking of vendors as it is a pool of qualified users and externally audited,” Scott Wilson told SCDigest. |
