Supply Chain Graphic of the Week: Amazon Air coming to an Airport Near You

70% of US Population Now Lives within 100 Miles of an Amazon Air Served Airport

Sept. 10, 2021

SCDigest reported earlier this week on the new report from the Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development at DePaul University on Amazon's air freight. The DePaul research team began publishing detailed analyses of Amazon Air in 2020. (See Amazon’s Air Fleet Continues to Expand in Scale and Coverage.)

This week, CNBC used data from the report to created an animated graphic showing the growth in the percent of the US population that lives within 100 miles of an airport served by Amazon Air, and airports added in each of three phases: the state of affairs in  April 2020 as the startng point, and then expansion as of February 2021 and then just again in August.

Since it was an animation, the graphic we caputued shows only the final chart build for August 2021.

The first of the builds shows that in April 2020 already 54% of US populaion lived within 100 miles of an Amazon Air-served airport. That jumped to 60% by February of this year and 70% as shown by August - an incredible pace of expansion.

Amazon has added service to seven cities since the February report. In total, Amazon Air now regularly flies to 42 airports in the United States, including its territories, and more than a dozen international locations.

More to come and soon, no doubt.
