The concept of "shop floor to top floor" - or how what's happening in a company's factories needs to be better connected to higher level business decisions and provide a near real-time feedback loop - has been around since at least the mid-1990s.
But how many companies have really made that a powerful reality?
Regardless, we liked this slide from Filippo Focacci of IBM in a recent supply chain videocast, nicely illustrating the role of planning and scheduling in the overall hierarchy of strategic, tactical and operational planning. (To view the full broadcast, go to:
Improve Operational Efficiency and Service Level with Factory Planning and Scheduling.)

We thought the graphic might be useful for companies as a basis for illustrating their own planning processses.
