The
growing recognition and importance of supply
chain management excellence continue to
manifest themselves with a stready stream
of supply chain executive appointments,
often as part of the creation of an integrated
supply chain organization.
This
week, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. announced
it has appointed Kevin
Olifiers as vice president for its North
American Supply Chain Operations. Olifiers
comes to the Akron,
OH
based tire giant from SVP Worldwide, manufacturer
of the Singer and Viking sewing machine
brands. Before that he was at Kodak.
He replaces Patrick Hurley, who is staying
with Goodyear but being reassigned to an
as yet unidentified position.
Interestingly,
Olifiers will report to both Richard Kramer,
president of North
America
and Chris Clark, Goodyear's senior vice
president for global sourcing. Both the
dual reporting structure and having the
supply chain function reporting to procurement
are unusual.
"An
advantaged supply chain is one of Goodyear's
Seven Strategic Drivers and has been identified
for 2007 as a focus area to drive a competitive
advantage," said Kramer.
Meanwhile,
food manufacturer Welch’s announced
it had named David
Engelkemeyer as vice president of operations
and technology. He comes to Welch’s
from printing and supply chain services
company Banta, where he ran global supply
chain operations.
Finally,
glassware producer Libbey, out of Toledo,
OH,
said Jonathon Freeman has been hired for
the new position of Vice President, Global
Supply Chain. He will have responsibility
for an integrated supply chain operation
in North America, including plant operations,
materials and finished goods purchasing
for all businesses, warehousing, distribution,
logistics, production planning and customer
service. In addition he will be responsible
for import procurement and sourcing.
Prior to
joining Libbey, Freeman was at Delphi Corporation,
serving as Director of Global Logistics. |
