150 Countries Ranked in Second Logistics Performance Index; Germany Number 1, Somalia Dead Last

The World Bank has just released its second ranking of more than 150 countries on their logistics capabilities and performance, the first such effort coming in 2007.

We reviewed the report and the rankings in more detail earlier this week in SCDigest's On-Target newsletter (see World Bank Releases Latest Ranking of Logistics Performance by Country). Here, we simply present the country by country rankings from number 1 Germany to number 155 Somalia (some hostile countries were not ranked at all), as shown in the graphic below.

To create the index, the World Bank used survey responses from a large number international freight forwarders and third party logistics companies. All told, more than 5000 individual country assessments were collected.

Based on the survey data, the World Bank LPI is a composite of a country’s rating across six different attributes:

  • Efficiency of the customs clearance process.
  • Quality of trade and transport-related infrastructure.
  • Ease of arranging competitively priced shipments.
  • Competence and quality of logistics services.
  • Ability to track and trace consignments.
  • Frequency with which shipments reach the consignee within the scheduled or expected time.

The survey attempts to get at both efficiency in international logistics as well as internal logistics costs and capabilities.
