Just last week, for example, Schneider was named the overall winner of 2022 CIPS Excellence in Procurement Award. CIPS is sort of the Institute for Supply Management analog in the UK and much of the rest of Europe.

In May, Schneider was named the number 2 supply chain in Garter’s annual Top 25 Supply chain ranking, up from number 4 in 2021.It's sustainabilty efforts were surely a factor in its near top ranking.

Schneider’s Zero Carbon Project, launched in 2021, involves providing tools and resources to its suppliers to help them set and achieve their own carbon reduction targets.

Under the project, Schneider has partnered with its top 1,000 or so suppliers, representing about 70% of the company's carbon output, with a goal of reducing the operational emissions from those suppliers by 50% by 2025. On a longer term basis, Schneider’s has a goal of achieving a net zero carbon emissions in its supply chain by 2050.

Globally, 1,019 suppliers have already formally on-boarded and have committed to strong de-carbonization. Schneider says more than 70% of participating suppliers are embarking on an emission-reduction program for the first time.

As part of the effort, an extensive supplier support framework has been developed. That includes mentoring, exclusive access to a web portal with the latest training, and advisory support from Schneider.

The company says that in less than a year, nearly 40% of those suppliers have shown average reductions in carbon emissions of about 4%.

With its sustainability program driving its overall award, it’s no surprise Schneider also won the CIPS Best Sustainability Project of the Year.
