Supply Chain Graphic of the Week: How Much Do Procurement Managers and Executives Make?

Chart on Average Salary by Positional Level, but Why Do Women Continue to Make Less then Men?

June 21, 2018

The Institute of Supply Management is out with its 13th annual salary survey for procurement professionals for 2018 (based on 2017 data), and the numbers are interesting as always.

The 2018 report is based on survey data from just under 3000 supply management professionals, so the data has a lot of credibility.

The report includes the chart below on average salary (before bonus) by level in the organization, from CPOs and equivalent positions down to supply management newbies.

Source: ISM

As can be seen, CPOs averaged about $263,000 in salary compensation, all the way down to over $77,000 in salary for staff early in their supply management careers. And once again, at all levels, women earn less than men, in some cases significantly, continuing a multi-year trend.

As we've said in previous years, SCDigest wishes that ISM would dig into the data or find some other way to explain the on-going delta in compensation betwen men and women. Is it discrimination - or something else?
