Supply chain planning has never been more critical, with the clear understanding that synchronizing plans across the company is absolutely essential to business success, and that integration of planning and execution must improve, in part by creating near-real time feedback loops of execution data back into planning systems.
As companies strive to improve these planning processes, many are limited by aging supply chain planning technology, just as a new generation of planning software is coming to market.
And that next generation is needed, as companies are taking on new planning challenges, such as forecasting by SKU at the store level, and managing multiple plans simultaneously across segmented supply chains.
SCDigest, in fact, senses that there is a growing gap between the performance of supply chain planning leaders versus the middle of the pack, let alone the laggards.
With those and many other dynamics in play, SCDigest has just launched a new research project, the Supply Chain Planning Process and Technology Benchmark 2013. It is similar in scope to the very successful Supply Chain Execution Benchmark research SCDigest performed in 2012.
The research involves a 10-minute survey that will form the foundation of the study, to be supplemented by additional insight, observations, trends identification and other commentary.
