Dr. Langley assures us he will begin a new streak next year.

The number of Chinese factories ordered by the government to shut inefficient or high pollution production capacity last week, primarily in heavy industry sectors. The announcement was misreported by some outlets as involving edicts to entirely close those facilities,  but only about a dozen factories are slated for full closure. Most just need to shut down or improve specific production lines or processes within the factory. This is another step in China's stated plan to eliminate smaller, less-efficient factories in the country. How the data to support the action is not clear.

Perhaps surprisingly, the total rise in wages for truck drivers from 2000 to 2009, according to just released data from US Bureau of Labor Statistics. The bureau says truck drivers averaged just $37,330 in compensation in 2009, meaning they achieved just 19% growth in earnings since the beginning of the decade, placing the profession in 95th place out of the 100 most common professions in terms of wage growth during that period. Is there really a driver shortage?
