Supply Chain Graphic of the Week - SCM Priorities 2008

Not Surprisingly, Reducing Supply Chain Costs Topped the Gartner Survey Results; How will those SCM Priorities Change for 2009?

By SCDigest Editorial Staff

What were the top supply chain priorities for companies in 2008?

The chart below shows data from a survey research and analyst firm Gartner did in late 2007, showing expected SCM priorities for 2008. The results came from a survey of respondents pulled from SCDigest readers.

As can be seen from the graphic, reducing operating costs, not surprisingly, topped the list. (Respondents were asked to pick their top 3 priorities, in order.)

How will these priorities change for 2009, if at all, in the current economic and supply chain climate, with a soft economy but also dramatically lower energy and commodity costs? It's possible those factors will increase the importance of driving business growth relative to cost reduction.

Help us find out by participating in this year's survey. You will receive an invitation to participate next week.
