Need to comply with retailer or other RFID mandates, but would prefer not to buy any equipment (printers, readers, etc.)?

A new venture was announced this week by RFID LMT, out of Denver, and RFID Leasing Company LLC, a division of Allegiance One Leasing Company of Chicago, by which the two companies will partner to offer leasing options specific to RFID-related technology.

The announcement specifically cited relationships with RFID equipment vendors Siemens AG, Alien Technologies, and 3M as being central to the offering, though SCDigest thinks a broader array of vendor alternatives be key to making this successful.

RFID tags, of course, are “consumable” items, at least in the passive/Electronic Product Code versions, and not subject to leasing. That said, there is probably room in the market for a company specializing in leasing RFID hardware.
