Defense contractor Raytheon announced this week it has won a contract in partnership with UPS Supply Chain Solutions for service parts delivery for the U.S. Navy's Phalanx Close-In Weapon System – based on a fixed price arrangement that guarantees delivery of spares to drop points within agreed-to time frames.
The contract involves more than 1,100 part numbers amounting to more than 30,000 individual Phalanx parts, which will be stored at a distribution center in Louisville, and which SCDigest presumes will be delivered to Navy depots largely from UPS’s hub there.
A company press release said that the deal encompasses worldwide delivery using the best commercial carrier available, with detailed track and trace systems. Other services include retail and wholesale spares modeling, spares procurement and inventory management.
The contract applies to both the U. S. Navy and the 24 international navies that have Phalanx in their inventories.
