Supply Chain Graphic of the Week– New Supply Chain Skill Requirements

How is Supply Chain Management Changing? No Surprise, Practioners See Need to Move Skills Upstream

By SCDigest Editorial Staff

We all know that supply chain management requirements are changing rapidly, and correspondingly leading to changes in the skill requirements for supply chain practioners.

Nevertheless, it was interesting to see new research from Dr. Larry Giunipero, professor of marketing and supply chain management at Florida State University's College of Business; Dr. Robert Handfield, Bank of America university distinguished professor of supply chain management at North Carolina State University's College of Management and director of the Supply Chain Resource Cooperative; and Douglas Johansen, a doctoral student at Florida State University's College of Business.

The graphic below, taken from an article the three recently posted in the Wall Street Journal, shows data from a recent survey the researchers did over a wide group of supply chain managers.

The bottom line - for both their careers and their company's success, supply chain managers need to get more global, more strategic, and more collaborative.
